Gwangalli M Drone Light Show (Line-up for September)

Gwangalli M Drone Light Show is a FREE attraction held twice every Saturday in front of Gwangalli Beach. Although the show happens weekly, Gwangalli Beach is packed with tourists, eager to watch the different light shows.  

This month features a variety of themes.  

September 3: Well-known characters from Poke Mon appeared in the sky.

September 10: To celebrate Chuseok Holiday, 1,000 drones will put on a Chuseok themed performance at 8:00 pm only.  

September 17: Famous landmarks will be showcased in the sky.

September 23 (Friday): There is usually no drone show on Friday, but to mark the opening of “2022 APP WORLD TOUR BUSAN SUP OPEN,” a drone show will be held at 8 pm with the related theme.

September 24: This drone show will also celebrate the “2022 APP WORLD TOUR BUSAN SUP OPEN,” but the show will differ from the previous day.

Tips: Parking is extremely difficult in the Gwangalli area, especially on the weekend. I highly recommend you use public transportation.

Busan Will be Directly Influenced by Super Strong Typhoon on Tuesday

Typhoon “Hinnamnor” is expected to pass through Busan on Tuesday, September 6th.

Hinnamnor” is forecasted to be a very strong typhoon with a central atmospheric pressure of 940 hectopascals and a maximum wind speed of 47 meters per second.

The meteorological administration said, “Hinmannor will be more destructive than both typhoon Sarah in 1959 and typhoon Maemi in 2003.”

The Venue for BTS Concert Changed

Big Hit Music Agency announced that the venue for BTS’s upcoming concert in Busan has changed to the Asiad Main Stadium.

BTS who was appointed as an ambassador for the 2030 World EXPO planned to hold a free concert in Ilkwang, located on the outskirts of Busan, to help promote the city.

However, the plan was criticized by the public because of the inconvenient location.

Now that the venue has been changed to the Asiad Main Stadium, the number of audience members will be downsized drastically.

Big Hit Music Agency said that it will announce more details later.

Busan Biennale 2022

Busan Biennale 2022 is a biannual international contemporary art show. They will kick off their new season on September 3rd with the theme, “We, on the Rising Wave.”

The former deputy director of Art Sunjae Center, Haeju Kim oversaw this year’s Busan Biennale as artistic director.

While making a press statement, Kim said, “the biennale will look into how Busan has been formed as it is today, after going through modernization, liberation from Japanese colonial rule and industrialization.”

64 artists from 26 countries will have their art on display in the show this year. The 2022 venue is the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) in Busan. The museum is located on Eulsukdo Island in the western part of the city. The Busan Biennale 2022 will last for 65 days, concluding on November 6th.

BTS Holding a Concert in Busan on October 15

Kpop group BTS will hold a live concert in Busan on October 15 to support the city’s bid to host the World Expo 2030.

According to Weverse, the global platform for fans and artists, the name of the concert is “Yet to Come in Busan” and it will take place on a special stage in Ilkwang, Gijang-gun district which can hold around 100,000 people. This concert is FREE for visitors.

The show will also be broadcasted onto a large-screen at an outdoor parking lot that can hold up to 10,000 people by the Busan Port International Passenger Terminal.

People unable to attend the concert in-person will be able to join via a live stream.

BTS was officially appointed as an ambassador for the 2030 Busan World Expo, with plans to carry out various promotional activities, starting with the concert.

The “Autumn Marine Healing Program” Run by Busan City

The city of Busan announced on the 23rd that it will run a special healing program, titled “Autumn Marine Healing Program.”

This program is centered around Busan’s representative healing tourism content.

These classes are held at Suyeonggang River, Busan beaches and Yeongdo’s Amir Park from September 3rd to October 30th.

In addition to the existing Nordic Walking, Sunset Pilates, Singing Bowl Meditation and Yoga Programs that were available during the first half of this year, a new aromatherapy class is now available.  

Those who wish to participate can reserve their spot at 부산해양치유.kr on a first-come, first-served basis.

If you register to participate by the end of this month, you can get a 20% off discount and complimentary souvenirs. The city will also promote the “Autumn Marine Healing Program” at the 2022 K-Wellness Fair, held at Bexco from the 25th to the 27th of August.

New Pet Playground in Songjeong-dong

The Haeundae-gu district, Busan announced on the 23rd that it has completed a new pet playground located next to the abandoned animal adoption center in Songjeong-dong.

The pet playground is a total of 993 meters long and is equipped with outdoor play facilities, green spaces, sand boxes and convenience facilities for visitors.

The Haeundae-gu district will officially open the park next year after improving the lawns and facilities.

The pet playground is free for visitors as long as a reservation is made online.

Pet care and training courses are also available for pet owners to use.

Kim Sungsoo, head of the Haeundae-gu district office said, “the population of pets is increasing, but related facilities are too few for the numbers,” he added, “we will create a pet playground where anyone can come and enjoy spending time with their pets.”

James Grundy, a British Veteran Will be Buried in Busan

According to the Namgu-district in Busan, James Grundy, a British veteran who served on the UN military body recovery team during the Korean War has died at 91 of cancer during the early morning of the 10th (local time).

According to Grundy’s will, his remains will be moved to Busan and buried in the UN Memorial Park alongside his comrades. He has also been granted posthumous burial by the International Commission of the UN Memorial Park.

An official at the UN Memorial Park said, “the body is expected to arrive from the UK sometime this month and the funeral will be held at the UN Memorial Park either in September or October.”

Grundy who fought in the Korean War in 1951 helped recover the bodies of around 90 British, US and South Korean soldiers during his service. Then, he returned to the UK in 1953 where he remained until his next visit to South Korea in 1988 with the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs’ revisit program.

Over the next 30 years, he would travel back to South Korea annually to take care of the UN Memorial Park. However, he was unable to visit Korea for two years due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

After his long-awaited return last May, he was able to hold a lecture here in Korea. In recognition of such hard work, Grundy was chosen as an honorary resident of the Namgu-district in May of 2019. An honorary citizenship was then scheduled to be given to him this October.

Confirmed! BTS to Hold a Concert in Busan This Fall


Fans around the world are paying close attention to the date and venue of BTS’s concert, after they were appointed as ambassadors for the 2030 Busan World Expo. The concert will be the first full-fledged performance that they have had since announcing the suspension of the group’s activities. With this news, tens of thousands of fans from their “ARMY” are expected to travel to Busan to see them.

According to the Kookje Newspaper, BTS’s 2030 Busan Expo Concert is expected to be held in mid-October. Ever since the appointment ceremony for BTS’s on the 19th of last month, the Expo Bid Committee, Busan City and BTS’sagency “HIVE” have been discussing the date and location of the event. 

Some candidates for the event include the Busan Asiad Main Stadium, Samrak Ecological Park, and North Port.  

ARMY members are already starting to book an accommodation in Busan in time for the BTS concert. 

The city expects thousands of ARMY members to visit Busan for a short period of time while BTS is here and is considering ways to expand transportation services such as trains and subways.
In fact, ARMY members from 197 countries participated in the BTS online concert last year, and more than 170 BIE members attended. 

Following Busan’s concert to bid for the 2030 Busan World Expo, BTS will also attend on-site inspections from the International Exposition Organization (BIE) and share promotional videos via their official social media platforms.
